Strong Opinion – Philadelphia (-3 -115) over NY Giants

  • Daniel Jones will have no time in the pocket on Sunday with Philadelphia’s best pass rushers teeing off on New York’s offensive line, which will be without left tackle Andrew Thomas.
  • Giants’ backup LT Joshua Ezeudu surrendered 5 sacks in only 170 pass-blocking snaps last season and he will struggle across from edge defender Josh Sweat, who ranks 10th in pass rushing efficiency. New York could possibly go with Evan Neal at left tackle, but the former first-round pick was benched in training camp for a reason. He surrendered a 10% pressure rate last year.
  • Eagles’ interior defender Jalen Carter ranks 12th in pass-rushing efficiency and he will wreak havoc across from RG Greg Van Roten, who has surrendered 15 pressures (7th-most).
  • Philadelphia’s offense will be without LT Jordan Mailata and TE Dallas Goedert, but I expect them to feed RB Saquon Barkley against his former team. The Eagles have a 44% rush success rate (5th) and New York’s defense is surrendering 5.2 yards per rush (31st).
  • Jalen Hurts’ wide receivers have a favorable matchup on the outside. AJ Brown has 235 yards in just two games and DeVonta Smith has a 66% success rate (3rd). The Giants call single-high safety coverage at a 50% rate (9th-highest) and Philadelphia’s yppp is 24% higher versus single-high than two-high safety coverages.
  • Our model favors the Eagles by 5.4 points, with a predicted total of 46.9 points, and the matchups favor Philly.

Philadelphia is a Strong Opinion at -3 -120 odds or better.
