Eastern Michigan is 2-1 but their two wins were against Mississippi Valley State, one of the worst FCS teams in the nation (about 64 points worse than an average FBS team) and Charlotte, who is in the discussion for worst FBS team in the nation. In between those wins was a 21-61 shellacking at Missouri. Wyoming is closer to Missouri than they are to Charlotte and MVSU and the Cowboys’ promising offense (6.2 yards per play against teams that would allow 6.3 yppl to an average team) should move the ball pretty easily against an Eastern Michigan defense that was 2.0 yppl worse than average last season and has been 1.4 yppl worse than average so far this season.
Wyoming’s defense isn’t good either (0.8 yppl worse than average) but Eastern Michigan is equally bad offensively without injured star RB Shaq Vann, who had averaged an impressive 6.2 yards per rush on his 121 career carries before getting injured after 1 carry in week 2 against Missouri. In the two games without Vann the Eagles have averaged only 3.2 yards per rushing play (taking out his 10 yards on that 1 run against Missouri) and that includes a pathetic 2.6 yprp against a below average Charlotte run defense last week. Eagles’ quarterback Todd Porter should post good numbers against a bad Wyoming secondary but overall the Eagles are projected to gain a modest 5.5 yards per play while the Cowboys rack up 6.9 yppl. I like Wyoming in this game.
