I see some line value on UTEP here, as Cade McConnell is an upgrade at quarterback. McConnell came into last week’s game and tallied 213 yards on 30 pass plays and he was the Miners’ best quarterback last season (just 0.3 yards per pass play worse than average).
My issue with fully backing UTEP is the matchup of Sam Houston’s run-heavy offense (234 rush yards per game at 5.4 yards per rushing play) going up against a Miners’ defense that can’t stop the run (254 yards at 6.1 yprp allowed). However, McConnell should do some damage through the air against a Bearkats’ defense that is good defending the run by has been 0.7 yppp worse than average against the pass.
