Akron quarterback Thomas Woodson was suspended before last Tuesday’s game and his status for tonight is still unknown as of this afternoon. Akron’s offense has been bad with Woodson (just 4.8 yards per play against teams that would allow 5.9 yppl to an average team) and it was worse last week at Miami-Ohio with Kato Nelson behind center, as the Zips gained just 4.0 yppl in a 14-24 loss. Ohio has a solid defense that is 0.1 yppl worse than average on a national scale, which is good by MAC standards, so I don’t expect much from the Akron offense tonight even if Woodson plays.
Ohio’s run-heavy attack has averaged 263 rushing yards at 6.6 yards per rushing play and the Bobcats should improve on those numbers tonight against an Akron defense that is 0.4 yprp worse than the average defense that Ohio has faced. My math model likes Ohio minus the points.
