Game Analysis
AUBURN (-10.5) 30 Louisiana State 14
LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, a graduate transfer from Ohio State, is not the answer at quarterback despite some of the praise I’ve been hearing. Burrow has completed only 47.7% of his passes and has averaged just 5.8 yards per pass play, including only 6.4 yppp against FCS team SE Louisiana last week. The upset win over Miami had nothing to do with Burrow, who averaged only 5.3 yppp in that game, and overall LSU’s offense has been very mediocre (5.5 yards per play against teams that would allow 5.7 yppl against an average team. I don’t see Burrow leading the Tigers to much success against a very good Auburn defense that held Washington’s formidable offense in check.
Auburn’s offense, meanwhile, is in good hands with future NFL quarterback Jarrett Stidham, who has completed 68% of his passes and averaged 6.7 yards per pass play against that elite Washington defense that is better than the LSU defense he’ll face today. I actually was impressed by the 5.0 yppl that LSU held Miami too but Auburn’s offense is clearly better than the Hurricanes’ attack. My ratings favor Auburn by 14.5 points and they apply to a pretty solid 70-28-4 ATS situation.
