Georgia Southern (-8) vs Appalachian State

Without any adjustments my math model would favor Appalachian State by 2.4 points in this game. However, App State didn’t think they’d be in a bowl with their 5-7 record, so a lot of players announced their intention to transfer (including both starting quarterbacks) and its unknown which players are going to play for the Mountaineers. The head coach Dowell Loggains said he’s let those players intending to transfer play in this game but there is still no news on which players might play or not play – although Loggains said some players choosing to play may be surprising. That could mean that one of the two starting quarterbacks might play, but it may not mean that.

I feel there would likely be some value on Appalachian State if either quarterback, AJ Swann or JJ Kohl plays, but backup Noah Gillon was a disaster. Gillon managed just 78 yards on 36 pass plays with 28 of those pass plays (for just 76 yards) being against a Southern Team that would allow 6.8 yppp to an average quarterback.

Appalachian State still hasn’t published a depth chart for this game, or changed their roster from the end of the season roster, so there is really no way to tell what sort of team they might field in this game.
