VIRGINIA TECH (-6)  28   California  22

As I’ve mentioned many times, taking the points in Cal games is usually the way to go given that the underdog in all Cal games under coach Justin Wilcox is now 63-35-1 ATS, including 6-1 this season. However, my Golden Bears are not a good team despite their 5-2 record, as they’ve been 0.7 yards per play worse than average on offense and 0.2 yppl worse than average defensively for the season – and are worse without stars Isaiah Crosby and Ryan McCulloch.

Virginia Tech has been a disappointment this season but the Hokies are actually a decent team – rating at 0.2 yppl better than average on offense and average defensively.

My math favors Virginia Tech by 9 points but Cal’s history as an underdog (24-11-1 ATS getting more than 4 points under Wilcox) makes this a pass for me.
