My preseason ratings would have favored Arizona State by 4 ½ points in this game but allowing 10.8 yards per pass play to Northern Arizona last week is an indication that last year’s problems in pass defense were not fixed. That could be trouble against Patrick Mahomes and the pass heavy Texas Tech attack. Texas Tech’s defense is bad too so there should be a lot of points, which is indicated in the high total, and my ratings favor the Sun Devils by ½ a point in this game – so the line has adjusted properly. ASU does apply to a 40-6 ATS game 2 situation so I’ll lean with the Sun Devils based on that.
