NEW ORLEANS (-6.5) vs Carolina

Sam Darnold is getting the start on Sunday with Cam Newton averaging just 4.4 yards per pass play for Carolina. The New Orleans rush defense is the best in the NFL by our metrics and the Panthers are going to need Darnold in the passing attack. Carolina WR DJ Moore has 144 targets (5th) but he will be limited by Pro Bowl CB Marshon Lattimore, who leads the league with 19 forced incompletions.

Taysom Hill will be back under center this week for New Orleans, and he is clearly the best option behind Jameis Winston, as Hill is averaging 5.8 yppp this year. The Saints are also rushing for 4.6 yards per attempt in Hill’s seven career starts. Alvin Kamara is averaging 1.54 yards per route run (7th) but ‘ linebacker Shaq Thompson is conceding only 7.4 yards per reception (2nd). Carolina’s defense is likely going to be without edge defender Haason Reddick, who ranks 21st in pass rushing efficiency.

Our model favors the Saints by 4.2 points with a predicted total of 40.4 points.
