All that Boston College was missing in recent years was a good quarterback. It looks like that issue has been rectified with the emergence of sophomore Anthony Brown, who struggled as a freshman (52% completions) but has connected on 33 of 48 passes (69%) while averaging 12.4 yards per pass play. BC has been consistently productive in the passing game, averaging 11.8 yards per pass play, 11.4 yppp, and 11.6 yppp in their 3 games. It has helped to face 3 teams that have struggled to defend the pass but the Eagles averaging 8.2 yards per play in their 41-34 win at Wake Forest was impressive. Purdue’s defense has been surprisingly horrible so far this season, surrendering 480 yards per game at 6.3 yards per play to teams that would combine to average 5.8 yppl against an average defensive team.
BC should have another good offensive game but Purdue’s offense has been consistently great this season, averaging nearly 500 yards per game at 7.2 yppl (against teams that would allow 6.1 yppl to an average team). BC is once again good defensively, as the Eagles have yielded just 4.3 yppl to three teams that would average 5.1 yppl against an average defensive team.
Overall my math favors BC by 7 ½ points so I’ll pass this game.
